Pediatric rheumatologists and allied research professionals from across Canada attended a Research Workshop and Future Directions Symposium at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon June 17 – 20, 2009. This meeting followed in the success of last year’s Canadian Alliance of Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators (CAPRI) Symposium assisting in the facilitation, organization and administration of various studies and projects. In addition the meeting provided a venue for writing groups to work on publication preparation, to consider future research directions and to begin preparation of future grant applications. Concurrent working group sessions took place, with discussion around variety of topics including international partnerships, biomarkers and imaging, knowledge translation exchange, training, vasculitis, and multicentre coordination. Time was spent discussing the current status and future directions of existing research studies, including BBOP and REACCH OUT. An afternoon was devoted to “Future Directions: Emerging New Research Themes”, which included discussions on early origins of rheumatic diseases, interventional studies, and a variety of other possible future projects. Overall the meeting was a great success.  CAPRI gratefully acknowledges the financial contributions of the following organizations: The Canadian Arthritis Network, CIHR/IMHA, The Department of Pediatrics and the Institute of Child and Adult Arthritis Research at the University of Saskatchewan, and The Arthritis Society. Schering-Plough, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Wyeth were the industry partners.
